Dr Westaway has been a Physiotherapist for 36 years. He is a Fellow with the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapy (1994) and has an acupuncture designation with the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada (1993). He was a Master's student at the University of Calgary investigating the effect neck mobility has on certain arteries within the neck. He completed his doctorate in 2005. Dr Westaway is the Calgary Flames Hockey Club's spinal consultant. He was the President of the Orthopractic Association of Canada. He has Osteopathic training at the Michener Institute. He is ART (Active Release technique) certified. He has won the Silver Quill award from the Canadian Physiotherapy Association for research. He is currently involved in research studies investigating certain areas of cervical spine (neck) dysfunction. He works closely with a neurosurgeon, neurologist and biomechanist and a PhD physiotherapist on these research projects. His wife Myra is a kinesiologist, physiotherapist and certified hand therapist. Dr Westaway is one a few PT's in Canada to have a medical directive in trigger point injections and Prolotherapy intervention- he works in tandem with Dr Martin Breton MD MSc in Calgary. Michael is a Certified MSK Specialist in Physiotherapy and is on the roster with the CPA (Canadian Physiotherapy Association). He is an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner (APP) in MSK at Infini Health (431 58th Ave SE Calgary AB 587 391 5858) where he performs a FastTrack MSK program. This program assesses complex cases and provides Rounds to a multi-disciplinary group of physician specialists, interventional radiologists and physiatrists, neurologists, Physiotherapists and pain specialists.
