Melanie MacKinnon graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from Dalhousie University in 2002. She continued her studies at the University of Toronto and received her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy degree in 2004. She advanced her Physical Therapy training by completing her Masters in Clinical Science Manipulative Therapy degree from the University of Western Ontario in 2009. She completed her certification in acupuncture from the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute as well as dry needling from the Integrated Dry Needling Program. She has completed a variety of complementary post-graduate physiotherapy courses relating to the diagnosis and treatment of movement impairment syndromes, mobilizations of joints with movement as well as the mobilization of the nervous and fascial system. She has also completed a number of population specific courses. She has been involved in teaching and mentoring in a variety of capacities with the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, University of Western Ontario, MCLSc Program as well as at the University of Toronto, MScPT program. She is currently the co-coordinator of the advanced MSK unit in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto. She continues to pursue post-graduate courses in functional retraining, manual and manipulative therapy techniques.
